I’m Laura Palmer, a professional illustrator and teaching artist who creates student-led murals for schools across the United States.
I’ve wanted to be an artist since I was a kid. Back then I drew myself standing at an easel wearing a beret, paintbrush in hand.
I became a full-time illustrator in 2014 and launched Miss Laura Makes Murals in 2022.
Each project invites students to work like professional illustrators. We talk about clients, assignments and deadlines before they respond to one important prompt:
What do you love most about your school?
I then transform their drawings into one cohesive mural and professionally paint it on campus during the school day. The result is more than wall art: it is a permanent reflection of the students, stories and small details that make each school community special.

Giving young artists the tools to express themselves with a pencil and helping schools create something their entire community can feel part of has been one of the greatest joys of my career.
