This mural had an extra special origin story: a friend I’ve known since middle school overheard Mrs. Masters (the most lovely teacher at MFE) say she wanted to create a mural to help promote school spirit. She generously sent an email saying “You should check out Laura’s work” and a few months later I was in Benicia at Mary Farmer Elementary.
Mary Farmer, like many of the schools I have worked with, has an art teacher only a few times a week, but the teachers and staff were very willing to have me pop in and out of their classrooms to work with the students. Each class, from TK to 5th grade, was presented a lesson on turning your ideas into illustrations — and these little falcons really delivered.
